Why Electronic Prescriptions ?

The paper prescription dates back in time at least 4000 years, when medical text was carved on clay tablets. Although for the most part, the writing of prescriptions on pre-printed prescription pads works and is easy to use, it is very elementary and is incapable of taking advantage of significant technological advances available today, especially with the emergence of the Internet as the leading communications medium.

Welcome to RxRite® - the electronic prescription solution that facilitates complete clarity over prescriptions, provides peace-of-mind that medications are covered, and reduces the frustration often associated with the prescription filling process. RxRite will change forever the way a prescription is "written" and communicated to a pharmacy for dispensing.

RxRite is a uniquely positioned, private company that targets the electronic prescription market. The company has developed a secure wireless and Internet-based prescription service that connects physicians, pharmacists, payers, and patients through its secure application gateway, which enables the secure creation, transmittal, and processing of electronic prescriptions. RxRite has also developed a proprietary "thin application" RxRite Wireless™ that resides on the new "always on", "always connected" Research In Motion® (RIM®) BlackBerry® handhelds. The company also plans to offer RxRite Wireless™ on other handheld devices in the near future.

Our Development

RxRite was founded on the belief that enhanced patient care and better healthcare decisions can result from providing health professionals with access to accurate and current patient information. In addition to representing an "electronic pipeline" for handling electronic prescription transactions between prescribers and providers, RxRite is designed as a single point of access to an integrated system, which maintains a comprehensive electronic prescription history for each patient across multiple prescribers.

How it Works

The RxRite solution is fast, effective, and wireless. A physician creates a prescription at the point of care - office, emergency room, community clinic, or remote setting. Using the RxRite application, the physician can access a drug database, patient information such as allergies, adverse drug reactions or conflicting medications and formulary coverage on specific medications covered by the patient's drug plan. Other relevant information, alerts the physician to special needs should the patient be unable to remember or communicate. Information is transmitted through RxRite's gateway to the patient's pharmacy of choice and is secured using state-of-the-art 128-bit encryption. A digital certificate is required to authenticate the prescriber as the registered user of the application. When the pharmacist fills the prescription, RxRite can provide immediate confirmation to the physician, allowing for a new level of enhanced patient care.

RxRite's secure system provides a comprehensive solution for health care providers and their patients that can:

  • reduce possible confusion relating to hand-written and verbal messages (sound-alike drugs),
  • reduce dispensing errors and delays at the pharmacy,
  • increase patient confidence and confidentiality, and
  • reduce time spent on phone calls between pharmacists' and physicians' offices.

RxRite is an integral part of the new electronic health information highway. We are now engaging leading physician and pharmacy technology vendors along with third-party claims management organizations and insurance providers to further realize upon the benefits of an integrated health system.

Patients will soon ask their physicians if they are "writing" their prescriptions using RxRite.
