Rafal Klepinski, Vice President, Technology Alex Falconer, CA, Vice President, Finance Our Mission RxRite will offer the health care system an innovative, secure, reliable, electronic mode of information sharing in order to provide the best possible care and treatment for patients. We will at all times respect the confidentiality and privacy of individuals who entrust RxRite with personal information. We will not sell, trade, rent, give access to or disclose any personally identifiable information entrusted to us without consent. Who Are We? What Will RxRite Be Doing in the Future? Our focus is to provide electronic solutions to communication barriers that hamper efficient health care communication. We will continue to refine and improve our services to give health professionals the tools they need to provide the best possible patient care. 1. What does RxRite do? RxRite's wireless and web-based technology offers the ability for physicians, patients, third-party payers (health insurers) to communicate through its secure Internet gateway for the electronic creation, transmittal, and processing of prescriptions. 2. Is RxRite a public company? RxRite is a private company. 3. Where are the company's headquarters? Toronto, Ontario, Canada. 4.What are the benefits of using RxRite? The RxRite system incorporates functionality that will resolve the most common complaints of physicians, pharmacists, and patients about the prescription filling process. Confusion over physicians' instructions is eliminated. Delays and frustration at the pharmacy can be completely avoided now that the physician has greater access to "real time" patient information. Health care providers will have more time to spend on improving patient care instead of wasting time performing call-backs to clarify handwritten prescriptions. There are many other unique benefits for physicians, pharmacists, and patients: For physicians:
5. How has the RxRite application become wireless? RxRite has developed a "thin application" called RxRite Wireless that resides on a wireless device - enabling them to use RxRite's proprietary wireless technology on the BlackBerry Wireless Handheld™ - to create and transmit electronic prescriptions. This breakthrough technology allows RxRite to deploy its e-prescription service directly into the hands of physicians, without requiring computers and Internet connectivity. 6. Are there any other companies that have developed a wireless e-prescription technology? RxRite was on of the first to develop an out-of-the-box solution for the secure wireless creation and transmission of electronic prescriptions using the BlackBerry Wireless Handheld™. The RxRite system is one of the few electronic prescribing solutions that is completely untethered to a computer. It is totally portable, secure and accurate. 7. How does the prescription get to the pharmacy? Using RxRite Wireless, a physician creates an electronic prescription either at the point-of-care (office or emergency room) or from a remote setting. The BlackBerry Handheld, configured with the RxRite Wireless Application, connects to the RxRite Internet-based gateway (www.rxrite.com). Through this wireless channel and with the patient's consent, the physician can access prescription history, allergy status, conflicting medications, and formulary (drug coverage) information. The e-prescription is created and then routed through RxRite's secure, neutral gateway to the patient's choice of pharmacy. Once filled at the pharmacy, the physician can receive immediate confirmation on the prescription status, which facilitates enhanced patient care. 8. Does the physician need a special computer to use RxRite? No, RxRite can be accessed by using RxRite Wireless™ on the BlackBerry Handheld from Research In Motion® (RIM®). If a physician wishes to use a computer, he/she can access RxRite through the Internet via a browser. 9. Does the pharmacy require a special system to use RxRite? No, pharmacies do not have to make any changes to their current pharmacy vendor systems. RxRite has the ability to interface with all systems currently used by pharmacies. 10. Is RxRite compatible with existing physician Electronic Medical Record systems? Yes. RxRite has the ability to interface with physician software systems. 11. How secure is the RxRite system? The RxRite system is extremely secure. There are two parts to RxRite's security - encryption and authentication - ensuring that all information transmitted during the electronic prescription process is protected and that users (prescribers and pharmacies) are verified and registered with RxRite. The encryption used by RxRite is as secure as any encryption used in the medical or banking industry. It is commonly referred to as 128-bit encryption. The authentication used by RxRite is better than that required by the banking industry. The banking industry requires only a user name and password as authentication to access its systems over the Internet. RxRite, however, will require this as well as a digital certificate proving that the physician is who he/she claims to be. 12. How does the system prevent people who are not licensed medical professionals from writing prescriptions? Physicians and pharmacies must be registered with RxRite and must be authenticated/verified that they are licensed to prescribe/receive prescriptions before being able to use the RxRite service. Each time the physician logs on to RxRite, he/she must be identified using a digital certificate. Similarly with the pharmacy, before the pharmacy can receive the electronic prescription, it must be identified using a digital certificate. Only a physician that is registered with RxRite may use the BlackBerry handheld. This means that if the handheld is stolen or lost, no one except for the physician who is registered on that particular handheld may access RxRite. 13. Does RxRite plan to expand internationally? Yes. The RxRite application has international demand, and the company plans to expand first to the U.S., and then to other markets. 14. What are the regulations in the U.S. concerning electronic prescriptions? Electronic prescriptions are legal in the vast majority of U.S. states. 15. What are the regulations in Canada concerning electronic prescriptions, and how is RxRite addressing these issues? While there are currently no regulations in place for electronic prescriptions in Canada, the issue is under review with Health Canada, and a response is anticipated in the upcoming months. RxRite is a member of the ePrescription Working Group at Health Canada addressing this issue. To ensure secure, safe, and confidential transmission of prescription information, RxRite built its application around the principles for transmission of prescriptions issued by the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA). Specifically, RxRite's application has been built to:
